About Country Custom Upholstering

A family upholstery story, stitched through generations.

A Family Upholstery Story Spanning More Than 50 Years

Country Custom Upholstering is a family-founded furniture reupholstery and repair business located in Foothills County near Okotoks, Alberta. For more than five decades, the business has helped customers restore well-made, meaningful furniture instead of replacing it.

The family behind the craft: Caleb L. — son, Chenoa S. — daughter-in-law, Pattie L. — wife, and Dave — owner, with Gilmi, Luna, and Dozer keeping everyone company.

Built on Family, Craftsmanship and Pride

Country Custom Upholstering has always been more than a business. It is a family trade built on patience, practical skill and pride in doing the job properly.

The story began in Winnipeg in the mid-1970s, when Dave’s father, Ted, started the business. Through honest service and quality upholstery work, Ted built a reputation for helping customers repair, recover and preserve furniture they valued.

In 1989, Ted moved Country Custom Upholstering to British Columbia, where he continued serving customers and passing on the skills and standards behind the family trade.

After Ted passed away in British Columbia, Dave carried the business and its craftsmanship forward.

Continuing the Family Trade

Today, Country Custom Upholstering is run by Dave himself as a solo-operated shop, which means every project gets his hands, his attention, and his care from beginning to end.

Customers are not passed between sales staff, production departments or multiple tradespeople. They work directly with the upholsterer completing the project.

This hands-on approach allows Dave to understand the furniture, explain what it needs and give each piece his personal attention from beginning to end.

Dave and his wife moved to Okotoks six years ago and have been proud to make it home. Now based in Foothills, Dave continues the same family tradition his father started decades ago — helping people bring comfort, beauty, and new life back into their furniture.

Now Serving Okotoks, Foothills County and Calgary

Dave and his wife moved to the Okotoks area six years ago and are proud to call Southern Alberta home.

From his workshop in Foothills County, Dave now provides furniture reupholstery, repair and restoration services for customers in Foothills, Okotoks, Calgary and surrounding communities.

He continues the same family tradition his father began decades ago: helping people bring comfort, character and new life back to furniture that is worth keeping.

Furniture Often Holds More Than Fabric and Foam

A favourite chair may be where someone reads every morning. A dining set may have hosted decades of family gatherings. An antique loveseat or heirloom chair may be one of the few pieces still connecting a family to an earlier generation.

Dave understands that furniture can hold memories as well as practical value.

Whether the project involves a worn sofa, a favourite recliner, a set of dining chairs or a treasured antique, each piece is assessed with care. Dave’s goal is to make the reupholstery process approachable, honest and practical while respecting the history, construction and purpose of the furniture.

Work Directly With an Experienced Upholsterer

Country Custom Upholstering is not a large production facility. It is a small, owner-operated workshop where craftsmanship and personal service remain central to every project.

When you work with Dave, you work with someone who:

Has decades of family upholstery knowledge behind him
Understands the value of solid, well-made furniture
Handles each project personally
Provides honest guidance about repairs and reupholstery
Helps customers select suitable fabrics and materials
Respects antique, heirloom and sentimental pieces
Believes quality furniture deserves careful workmanship

Some furniture is worth holding onto—not only because of what it cost, but because of how well it was made, how comfortably it fits your home and what it means to your family.

Keeping Quality Furniture in Use

Reupholstering furniture can preserve strong frames, distinctive designs and pieces that would be difficult to replace. It also allows customers to update fabric, improve comfort and extend the useful life of furniture they already own.

Country Custom Upholstering helps customers make informed decisions about whether a piece can be repaired, recovered or fully reupholstered. Dave will explain what the furniture appears to need and provide a preliminary estimate before work is arranged.
